Converted control characters in edit fields

Postby augustk on Thu Apr 16, 2020 3:48 pm

I have a RichEdit text field F.E into which I copy each ASCII character between ordinal 0 to 127. When I look at the text in the session I get the following:

Code: Select all
      'F.E' ⎕WG 'Text'
\0

┼∧┘┐┌└┼─├┤┴┬│'| !"#$%&'()*+,-./0123456789:;<=>?@ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ[\]∧_`abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz{|}~

I notice some strange characters at the beginning of the second to last line so I run

Code: Select all
      ⎕UCS 'F.E' ⎕WG 'Text'
 92 48    1    2    3    4    5    6    7    8    9   32   32 32  32   32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32

Why are ASCII 14 to 26, 28 and 29 converted to some other characters? Also "^" (ASCII 94) has been replaced with Unicode LOGICAL AND (U+2227 = 8743). I run Dyalog APL 16.0 Classic.

Hi Augustk,

You can email me at Dyalog Support and we can discuss what you want to achieve.

ASCII 14 to 26, 28, and 29, are control characters.

One of the major disadvantages of the Classic version compared to the recommended Unicode version is that Classic has more layers of translation. It is one of those layers which is translating the character to 8743.

In Unicode Dyalog:

⎕ucs f.e.Text
94

Regards,

Vince
