Dyalog '14 - Videos week 10

Postby Karen|Dyalog on Fri Dec 05, 2014 4:41 pm

This week's user meeting videos concentrate on maintainability and enhancing your day-to-day Dyalog experience. Go to http://www.dyalog.com/dyalog_14/index.html to read about Dyalog '14 and follow the links to the videos.

• Maintaining code is often seen as a necessary evil and side-lined or outsourced in favour of more cutting-edge work. However, using Meir Lehman's laws of software evolution, Gianfranco Alongi (Ericsson AB) explores the importance of countering the entropy that arises within code after it has been released. In "Let's Talk about Maintainability!" he describes the factors that influence a program's maintainability and shows the relationship between code complexity, the effort needed to implement changes and the cost of doing so. • Even when not working in a team, using "Acre – the APL Code Repository" has numerous benefits. For example, saving your code to a repository means that you are protected from system crashes, damaged workspaces – and your own errors. Kai Jaeger and Phil Last (Independent APL Consultants) introduce and demonstrate how using Acre means you can revert mistakes, check the differences between multiple versions of the same workspace, review the history of a file and recover from crashes. http://video.dyalog.com/Dyalog14/?v=sGQSmHuQSb8
