Dyalog '14 - Videos week 7

Postby Karen|Dyalog on Fri Nov 14, 2014 3:22 pm

This week's user meeting videos centre round applications written using Dyalog that simplify educational administration. Go to http://www.dyalog.com/dyalog_14/index.html to read about Dyalog '14 and follow the links to the videos.

• Chris "Ziggi" Paul (Laser Learning Ltd) was set the task of mitigating the logistical issues surrounding keeping track of 728 pupils in a school split over two sites with multiple buses providing a shuttle service between them. In "School Laser System with NFC Registration and Alerts", Ziggi explains the system he implemented using Dyalog and Near Field Communication that allowed the transfer of information such as lunch orders, medical alerts, after school clubs and bus itineraries, all of which used to be recorded on paper, onto a system of wristbands and readers. The system had to allow different levels of access for parents, pupils and staff and, most importantly, had to be fast and reliable, as well as storing all data centrally so that no data could be accessed from a child's wristband without the correct authentication. http://video.dyalog.com/Dyalog14/?v=5vkU9fUUCqA

• An added bonus this week sees the release of a previously-unpublished video from Dyalog '12! Jerry Brennan has put his years of experience with APL to effective use in designing fun games and educational tools based on adaptive learning and testing methods. In "Teaching APL – Fun and Games in Hawaii" he shares the vocabulary assessments, number games and psychological tests that he's formulated using Dyalog and MiServer. These are under evaluation in his local schools as an assessment tool for new applicants. http://video.dyalog.com/Dyalog12/?v=lJAP2VOEa2U

There will be further updates next Friday highlighting the new videos for the week. If you have any requests for specific videos that you’d like to see sooner rather than later then please let us know at usermeeting@dyalog.com and we'll see what we can do.
