Dyalog '14 – Videos week 3

Postby Fiona|Dyalog on Fri Oct 17, 2014 12:13 pm

This week's user meeting videos shine a spotlight on two success stories concerning different projects implemented using Dyalog. Go to http://www.dyalog.com/dyalog_14/index.html to read about Dyalog '14 and follow the links to the videos.

• Technological advances mean that retrieving DNA from a single contributor is rare when examining trace from a crime scene; instead, a mixture of multiple contributions needs sophisticated software to separate and identify the individual donors. Forensic mathematician Charles Brenner (DNA-View) explains how using Dyalog enabled him to take on this challenge in "There's DNA Everywhere – an Opportunity for APL". His Mixtures program is already a long way ahead of the competition in terms of speed and accuracy and he plans to extend it even further.

• The major pension reform currently taking place in Finland has necessitated the production of a much more refined predictive tool than was available. In "Pension Microsimulation Model ELSI ", Heikki Tikanmäki (Finnish Centre for Pensions) summarises the structure and capabilities of the microsimulation model that has been written to meet this demand. He explains why Dyalog was selected for this model, the advantages inherent with upgrading to version 14.0 and their plans for future development.

There will be further updates next Friday highlighting the new videos for the week. If you have any requests for specific videos that you’d like to see sooner rather than later then please let us know at usermeeting@dyalog.com and we'll see what we can do.
