I now have the clear [X] button as I have turned on "Native look and feel" (whatever that's supposed to mean.)

Two things.
  • Why is a necessary advance in functionality tied to a question merely of style? [1.]
  • Kai's observation that previous now redundant searches are highlighted on entry to the editor while new useful ones are not.

  1. is it perhaps a matter of coincidence that the two things were implemented concurrently by the same developer; that that was the easiest way to code it; and that no-one was ever allocated to make it work across the board?
