Vector or was it Bektop ?

Volume 9, issue 1 (July 1992) of Vector, in light of the APL92 conference in St Petersburg was renamed "вектор" (the Cyrillic for Vector).

In light of this, (as at the time an active member of the Vector Journal Working Group), I wish to distance the journal from the work currently being undertaken by the Russian company called Vector (вектор), as I came across the following:

"Scientists alarmed over Russia's ‘risky' attempt to awaken virus that killed mammoths"

The Russian lab, also known as Vector aims to understand how viruses evolve by studying such diseases.

The project is being overseen at a former bioweapons lab in Russia's Novosibirsk region, but Vector hosts 59 maximum security biolabs around the world.

Russian researchers hope to identify the ice age viruses, also named paleoviruses, and revive them.

However, experts have raised concerns over the research, describing it as "risky" and confessing to a lack of confidence in the research facility.

This is despite the fact that during the APL92 conference, we passed one of the вектор offices, and noted the coincidence of the name. This occurred while, as part of a nuclear convoy complete with motor cycle outriders, flashing lights and sirens blearing, that was provided by our conference hosts (who were the Russian Nuclear industry), as we, ignoring normal traffic rules, passed through the outskirts of St Petersburg.
