MS Windows if Dyalog disappears or "has stopped working"

Postby Vince|Dyalog on Wed Aug 01, 2012 10:58 am

If you occasionally get the "Dyalog APL Version xx.x Development Environment Has Stopped Working" dialog and there isn't a syserror dialog box, please try to reproduce the problem and inform Dyalog Support.

If you cannot reproduce it, you can ask Windows to create a dump when you get
hangs/exceptions like this for any program, including Dyalog.

This also applies if Dyalog just disappeared for no obvious reason.

Please create the following registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps

In LocalDumps, right click in the empty pane on the right and create a new DWORD.

Give it a name of DumpType and set its value to be 2.

Next time you get the "Dyalog APL Version xx.x Development Environment Has Stopped Working" dialog, see if Windows has made a .dmp file in C:\Users\<YourUserNameHere>\AppData\Local\CrashDumps

(AppData is usually hidden in Windows Explorer, so you may have to type its name).

If it has, please
1) compress the file, and ask Dyalog Support for an FTP account to upload it to.
2) Tell us the Build ID of the dyalog.exe which generated the .dmp file.

Also, you might want to periodically check this directory to see if Windows has created many crash dumps there and how much disk space they take up.
