HTMLRenderer or .NET for toy application

Postby rherman on Wed Mar 13, 2019 11:32 pm

Which is better for a beginner to create a simple toy application with some graphics (sharpplot), and database interface to learn APL - HTMLRenderer or the .NET interface?

I have some familiarity with F# and .NET, and basic HTML/JS.

I am studying the documentation to see which appears easier and capable for this exercise. Thank you.

Hi Rob

Assuming you're on Windows, we'd suggest ⎕wc, HTMLRenderer and .NET in that order. Admittedly the ⎕wc tools aren't transferable to other platforms, but we think for a simple application that would be the best place to start, if for no other reason than that there's more documentation available (including Bernard Lerand's Mastering APL https://www.dyalog.com/mastering-dyalog-apl.htm).

SQAPL is supplied with Dyalog APL, so "all" you have to do is to get the ODBC drivers installed; here at Dyalog we use MariaDB/MySQL extensively, and once you've got the DSN configured, you should get on OK.
