Using the editor on Mac OS X

Postby nbrand on Fri Jul 08, 2016 10:50 pm

Hi all,

I am new to Dialog APL, and I have a question using the editor (on Mac OS X).
When I make changes, I can exit and save the changes by hitting <ESC>.

However, is there a way to save the changes, without closing the editor?
My workflow is to make changes - test - and continue to work on my function.
It would be great if I did not have to keep opening and closing the editor.

Thanks,

Nick

By default that keystroke isn't defined. However, if you go to Preferences -> Shortcuts you can specify a keystroke for <FX> (Fix the current function).

Many of our users user the Tracer <TC> (Ctrl-Enter) to trace into their functions, and then when they want to edit the function, hit <ED> (shift-enter) to edit the function, and when done, then hit <EP> which fixes the function .. but brings you back to the tracer. You have to be careful where the curosr is when you hit <ED> since if it's on another name, the editor will be opened on that name (depending on what the object in question is, the edit window may be read-only).

Some of our users start Dyalog, open the Tracer on their top-level function, and then remain in the tracer/editor for the entire time that this Dyalog session is running. I am somewhere in between .. certainly combining the tracer and editor aids productivity, but I sometimes like to get back to an empty SI stack before rerunning my code.
